Pediatric Obesity

The prevalence of pediatric obesity in the United States is staggering.  Overall, from ages 2 to 19, 20% of our children are obese.  Between the ages of 12 to 19, 22% fall into this category.  That’s almost a quarter of our children!  These numbers are particularly worse in our Hispanic and Black populations.

Only 50% of our children’s diets meet the federal dietary quality standard criteria and 9% already have activity limitations due to chronic health conditions resulting from obesity.

Even more staggering is that for today’s 2-year-olds, is it predicted that almost 60% of them will be obese by age 35.

Find out more about what pediatric obesity truly is, specific statistics and risk factors on pediatric obesity, how to avoid it, and what to do if your child is already suffering from this medical diagnosis in this month’s two part video blog.
